TOP DRIVES ROADMAP UPDATE - SEPTEMBER 2022
Hello drivers, and welcome to the September 2022 edition of the Top Drives roadmap!
Read on to learn all about what’s next for Top Drives, including new cars, environments, new features and more!
We’re well into 2022, and it’s been a huge year so far for Top Drives! Let’s take a look back at what’s been added to the game, and what’s on the horizon.
ROADMAP LAYOUT
As usual, the future plans are divided into the following categories:
Complete - what's already been released
Braking Distance - near end of development
On the Horizon - in development
A Long Road Trip - mainly pre-production, very early on.
Now, let’s look at what's been done, and what's coming next!
[DISCLAIMER]
As always, it's important to keep in mind that our timelines do shift, and so do team priorities. Features listed in the roadmap may not end up being developed.
For every player-facing feature, there is often a non-player-facing feature, such as improving our tooling to deliver more live content, or upgrading our backend infrastructure, so this list does not include everything we will be working on.
Q2/2022 - Q3/2022 Progress Update
Let's start by reviewing our progress from the previous quarter:
In the last roadmap, we said that the in-game inbox, loading time improvements, and more updated environments were coming soon, and we’ve implemented all of them! In addition to that, we introduced over 300 new World Expo cars, and introduced the Car Rarity Token Compensation system.
Braking distance (nearing the end of development):
We’ve got some exciting new features coming soon to Top Drives - including even more new cars and one more updated environment, new car models for increased realism, and further collection series, including the previously announced Old Guard, and Interstellar! In addition to new features, the team is also hard at work making server improvements for a more stable experience. We released a few server tweaks already that have shown results in decreasing downtime, and there are even more to come. From the moment you open Top Drives, we want to get you racing as quickly as possible, which is why we’re rolling out additional loading time improvements as well!
On the horizon (in development):
As for some features to come a little further down the line, we’re now testing different Events start and end times for each server region. This will make it much easier for players around the world to take part in events at times more convenient for them. Next, we’re looking into allowing players to use duplicate Legendary cars as fuse material equivalent to three Epic cars when used to upgrade another Legendary, increasing the value of your duplicate Legendaries. Finally, we are going to be testing a new first-time user experience - including new tutorials and much more. Please keep in mind - this feature will be a/b tested - meaning it will be rolled out to a selection of players initially, and we will use their data and feedback to determine whether or not the feature should be fully implemented into the game.
A long road trip (mainly pre-production, very early on):
You may have noticed a few features have moved around here since last time - updated physics and ground clearance specifically have been moved back. Outside of that, a new championship, similar to Yellowbird and Skyline Nismo is still planned, as well as achievements, aftermarket performance tuner cars, and updated store navigation, which aims to improve ease of use.
You’ll also notice we’ve added a “new PvP game mode”. This is a new game mode which is in early planning, whose aim is to improve the matchmaking balance and reward you for playing. Stay tuned for more info on this exciting new mode!
Thanks for checking out our September 2022 Roadmap! We hope you’re as excited as we are for the future of Top Drives!
