Any Hutch-A-Versary is a moment of celebration here at Hutch, but there's a particular moment of glory for those who hit the 10 YEAR HUTCH-A-VERSARY. And last month, three Hutchies reached those heights! Dom was one of them, and with 10 years under his belt, he's got a LOT of Hutch memories to share! Over to Dom...

The Basics

What’s your job role at Hutch?

When I started at Hutch just over 10 years ago, I joined as a Post-Graduate client engineer still waiting to graduate. My first project was research-based, named ‘Roadblock’ and designed to prove that controlling an app from two different devices and points of view at the same time could be achieved. Once we had proven that concept out, I was quickly moved onto Smash Cops Heat and MMX Racing where I worked on all aspects of client engineering. Further down the line after all the MMX Hilldash series games had been completed, I moved onto F1 Clash where I transitioned to become a server engineer. I now get involved with all things server and cloud. It was a bit of a learning curve, but I fancied the challenge and am better for it!

10 years of Hutch greatness.

What’s been your favourite moment at Hutch?

This is a hard one to answer as there have been so many fantastic moments in the past 10 years, and I feel extremely honoured and humbled to work at such a great place with so many amazingly talented and wonderful people. One of my personal favourites was the business trip to Los Angeles to meet the team at Mattel to discuss one of our older games, Hot Wheels: Race Off. They took us to their top secret design building via a real life Hot Wheels bus, took our laptops, phones and other devices from us and allowed us to enter into their world for a brief time.

It's fairly unprecedented for companies like that to allow outsiders in so it was a real experience. Just imagine the original Charlie and the Chocolate factory film meets all things toys, that pretty much sums it up. Not only that, they gave us a load of free Hot Wheels merchandise as well, including some near on impossible limited edition hot wheels cars!

Which 3 words best describe your time at Hutch so far?

Rollercoaster, Memorable, Grateful.

If Hutch was a car, what would it be?

Tricky one, but has to be something British, fast and stylish yet humble, so maybe a Jaguar F-Type or something along those lines!

What is your favourite Hutch benefit? How do you use it?

Another tricky question for me as things have changed over the years so much. My favourite is definitely the new 4 Day Week benefit though as it allows me to spend that extra day with my parents, and I commit one of those Fridays each month to volunteering in a local charity shop, which is something I like to do.

What’s the most important thing you’ve learnt at Hutch?

Hutch has made me realise just how important it is to work for a company that focus on their staff’s wellbeing, and how that can positively effect the work produced, as well as that person’s life outside of work.

What’s been your biggest challenge?

I had something very traumatic happen to me during 2020, and Hutch were incredibly good to me in the months after it. This was and continues to be a huge challenge for me, but I will always appreciate the support and friendship that was given to me during that time.

What advice would you give to someone interested in doing a similar role?

Stick at it, the wisdom comes with time!

Car Stuff...

How much do you like cars?

I don’t for one second think I’m the biggest petrol head at Hutch by a long shot, but I like my cars of all varieties. I’ve been to several Grand Prix, Nascar and International racing events. The last race I went to was probably the Le Mans 24hr race a number of years ago, which was was my second time attending that event, highly recommended if you haven’t been!

What would be your dream car?

Ford Mustang or Jag F-Type (non-convertible).
