Happy Hutch-A-Versary to Arturo! He’s celebrating 4 years at Hutch and is currently our Localisation Manager. Keep reading to find out why he thinks Hutch Christmas parties are top notch and how he's been using his extra day off now that we're a 4 Day Week company.
Arturo's role...
What's your role at Hutch?
I’ve done a few different things since I started at Hutch, but I’m currently the Localisation Manager - that means that I manage the workflows, resources and budgets used for launching and marketing our games in international markets, starting with getting all content translated into a bunch of different languages.
What’s the most important thing you’ve learnt at Hutch?
I’ve worked in some toxic environments where people don’t do a good job because they simply don’t want to be there, or they know they’re working for the benefit of somebody else who sees them as disposable. It’s incredible to see the creative output of people who are happy to come into work, and work in a team where they feel empowered to do their job well.
What’s been your biggest challenge?
Unsurprisingly, Covid. I liked my WFH days at first, but I very quickly started missing being surrounded by all the creative people that work here. I missed gathering weekly to see the teams demoing their work, and obviously not being able to hang out after work.
What advice would you give to someone interested in doing a similar role?
Localisation is quite a niche role within games - you’re never going to have the biggest team and some people won’t even know what you do! So if you’re someone with a background in translation you’re going to need a lot of initiative and drive to bring your ideas to the table.
Being a Hutchie...
What’s been your favourite moment at Hutch?
I like opportunities to be social so I’m going to go with my first Christmas party, it was only a week after I joined so I was nervous about attending but everyone was extremely lovely. Also we got seconds of everything that was on the menu so I must have had 3 different desserts.
Which 3 words best describe your time at Hutch so far?
Supportive, engaging, relaxed
If Hutch was an animal, what would it be?
A dolphin - they are an empathetic and collaborative bunch. They’re also very playful which is how I think of the team here.
What is your favourite Hutch benefit? How do you use it?
I’m going to have to say the 4-day work week. I spent the first month travelling every weekend. After that I’ve been using my extra day to do a bit of everything: personal projects, relaxing, house chores… and my favourite thing which is get to places that would otherwise be packed on a Saturday. It feels really good to have the freedom to do just nothing at all and rest if that’s what you like.
